Verizon speeds up LTE launch as Clearwire watches

Verizon Wireless will introduce Long Term Evolution service in two "pre-commercial" cities later this year before a broader deployment next year, Chief Technology Officer Dick Lynch said this week. Verizon Wireless' aggressive moves on LTE this week have put pressure on rival Clearwire, which asserts that its WiMAX network is superior to the LTE service Verizon Wireless will launch. The Sprint Nextel partner said it would offer more details about its Clear service rollouts March 5.
