EPA simplifies RINs system for RFS2

The Environmental Protection Agency has revamped its renewable identification number system to make it user-friendly and less prone to human error. In line with this, ethanol producers are urged to sign up "as early as possible" to test the EPA Moderated Transaction System -- the Web-based program that generates and trades RINs2 under the updated Renewable Fuel Standard, said Tony Miller, an EPA official. RINs1 will continue to be traded until RFS2 becomes effective July 1.
