Gardasil protects older women, gay men in separate studies

Merck & Co.'s cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil proved 89% effective in protecting women ages 24 to 45 against human papillomavirus, but it was also 78% effective in preventing HPV-related anal intraepithelial neoplasia in men ages 16 to 26 who have sex with men, the drugmaker reported. The two studies were presented at a conference on genital infection and neoplasia in Monaco.
