Manufacturers boost hiring as markets improve

Manufacturers, such as Caterpillar, have started to hire or bring back laid off workers as the economy continues to show signs of recovery, including an increase in exports and the need to replace depleted inventories. Caterpillar has rehired 600 workers in the past two months. The Federal Reserve reported that industrial production increased 0.9% in January -- the seventh consecutive monthly increase -- and factory output also rose 1%.
