Fla. hospital's fecal transplant program offers hope for patients

Florida's Boca Raton Regional Hospital has had a fecal transplant pilot program for the past six months under the direction of gastroenterologist Dr. Andrew Zwick, who calls the procedure a last resort for treating recurrent C. difficile. Zwick and his partner Dr. Lawrence Fiedler say antibiotics often do not cure C. diff because the infections frequently occur in patients already taking the drugs, which kill good bacteria that get rid of harmful germs such as C. diff.
