Flood damage prompts La. governor to request federal assistance

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal wrote to President Barack Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency seeking a disaster declaration in light of storms and flooding last month. Initial damage assessments exceed $6.5 million in 18 parishes, Jindal said.
