Document explores solutions to CV imaging cost challenges

Representatives from the American College of Cardiology and other medical groups including ASNC have released a document exploring "possible ways in which the medical care system can balance responsible use of imaging with patient safety concerns while maintaining or even enhancing quality of care." The authors argue that payer policies such as prior authorizations are "blunt instruments" in the effort to control imaging costs. The document advocates an approach that capitalizes on data and technology to refine imaging utilization and give more weight to the clinical value of procedures.
