Many Americans use online rating websites when choosing providers

Nearly 60% of more than 2,000 people reported that online physician-rating websites were at least "somewhat important" in selecting a care provider, according to a poll in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Still, information from the ratings websites was not deemed trustworthy by 43% of respondents. "A known social connection between people still counts a lot when it comes to sharing this kind of advice," study author Dr. David Hanauer said.
