Column: Airline mergers will pass regulatory scrutiny

Airline mergers will happen despite objections from lawmakers and intense regulatory scrutiny, writes Tom Walsh in the Detroit Free Press. He notes that the DOJ may not use its authority to stop Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines from merging. "There is little duplication in routes between Delta and Northwest, so a substantial reduction in either flights or employment is not anticipated. Northwest's Detroit hub, with its relatively new McNamara terminal, may well see an increase in traffic," he writes.
