Chances appear slim for Dean to lead HHS

Sens. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., are among senior Democratic lawmakers who believe that former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean should be the nominee for HHS secretary. Supporters cite his work while governor to expand health insurance in Vermont and his success as chairman of the Democratic National Committee. Dean, however, is not likely to get the job because of Democratic "family politics," said a Democrat close to the former governor.
