Federal funding will help Mississippi rebuild coast, barrier islands

The federal government this week approved a plan that aims to protect and restore Mississippi's coast and barrier islands. The program will provide $120 million in funding over four years, and the state will soon receive $61.8 million for the first two years. Mississippi will submit grant proposals for projects included in the Coastal Impact Assistance Program, such as environmental restoration and wildlife rehabilitation.
