Thousands cancel vacations to Martinique, Guadeloupe

Violent strikes on the French Caribbean islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe have prompted thousands of tourists to cancel their trips to the islands. "Tourism is fragile," said Madeleine de Grandmaison, chairwoman of the Martinique Tourism Authority. "People are not only canceling this week but also for all the months of February, March and April. We have a huge deficit of tourists ahead of us."
