To keep the fire of innovation burning, do something you're bad at and love it anyway, says Bill Buxton, principal scientist at Microsoft Research. He likes Yvon Chouinard's "80% man" strategy. Chouinard, founder of clothing company Patagonia, says that once he achieved 80% of his potential in mountain-climbing he took on new passions. "Always being in the throes of a passionate beginning is one of my primary methods of sustenance," Buxton says.
