Educators weigh in on plans for fast-track diplomas

Educators and advocates offer their opinions in this New York Times blog post on the pros and cons of plans set to be implemented in eight states next year allowing sophomores to graduate early and attend community college. Some say these programs are long overdue and will help eliminate the growing need for remedial courses in college. But others say the programs unnecessarily lock students into early career paths that may difficult for them to change later and may actually reduce the number of students who go on to attend four-year colleges.
