Recommendations out in bid for leadership at L.A. schools

Los Angeles schools chief Ramon Cortines announced his recommendations for new leadership at 18 new schools and 12 existing, low-performing schools. Under the plan, some of the new schools would be run by independent charter operators, and groups of teachers and administrators would have the chance to turn around many of the struggling schools. Bidders from inside and outside the district continued to lobby for control of the schools ahead of the school board's final decisions on Tuesday.
