Avoid changes to tax-deferred annuities, IRI president says

The Insured Retirement Institute is criticizing several proposals in President Barack Obama's proposed budget for fiscal 2013 that could affect tax incentives for retirement savings. Taking away annuities' tax-deferred status "would not necessarily increase tax revenue, but certainly would add a new barrier that would prevent Americans from attaining lifetime income coverage," IRI President Cathy Weatherford said in a statement.
