Dental care enhances a pet's overall health

According to the American Veterinary Dental Society, some 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have gum disease by age 3. Despite how common oral disease is, its impact on pet health is not fully recognized, notes AVMA spokesman Tom McPheron. The purpose of Pet Dental Health Month throughout February, created by the AVMA and other organizations, is to educate owners about proper pet oral health care and its benefits for a pet's overall health and quality of life.
