Experts find diabetes benefits in green tea compound

The green tea compound epigallocatechin gallate appeared to improve the size and function of the islets of Langerhans and protected them from the effects of type 2 diabetes onset in mice. The findings, published in Nutrition & Metabolism, suggest EGCG supplementation could provide beta cell protection in humans, the researchers said, noting more study is needed.
