Group: Risks tied to peripheral artery disease often undetected

Although women with peripheral artery disease face double to triple the risk of suffering a stroke or myocardial infarction, the condition is frequently unrecognized and untreated, according to an American Heart Association statement. In the Circulation, the group, along with the Peripheral Arterial Disease Coalition of the Vascular Disease Foundation, cited the need to raise awareness about the condition and test female patients who are at risk.
