Patents hint at Facebook's metadata strategy

Facebook is being awarded "more search- and ad-serving-related patents that rely on metadata, as well as news feeds," writes Laurie Sullivan. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted the social network a patent for location-based identification of context in one language and translation into another. Meanwhile, 451degrees was awarded patents that would potentially support Graph Search and other social networks. "It aggregates comments and content posted, building on the number of times the community searches for specific words in context," Sullivan writes.
