President Barack Obama stepped up pressure on Congress this week, urging lawmakers to prevent sequestration from taking place March 1. The spending cuts "don't have to happen," Obama said at the White House. "Congress has to act." Obama has called for a combination of tax increases and spending cuts to stop the sequester and blamed Republicans for being unwilling to raise taxes on upper-income Americans or companies.
