X Prize to pay $10 million for a Trekkie-like Tricorder

More than 250 companies or individuals have pre-registered for the X Prize competition that offers $10 million to the developer of a non-invasive device that provides physiological information to physicians at the bedside -- much like the Tricorder made famous by the "Star Trek" TV series in the 1960s. Among those vying for the Qualcomm Tricorder X Prize is Walter De Brouwer, whose ICU experiences when his son sustained a critical head injury prompted him to begin a project called Scanadu.
