Grantor retained annuity trusts popular tool to pass carried interest to heirs

Hedge fund and private equity fund executives are looking for ways to set up estate plans that efficiently pass carried interest to heirs. To this end, some are using grantor retained annuity trusts, which are commonly used to avoid federal estate and gift taxes on transfers of carried interest to heirs.
