Iowa city's planners review sign-approval process

The Planning & Zoning Commission in Marshalltown, Iowa, is considering changes to the process for approving new signs in the historic downtown district, to alleviate claims by local businesses and residents that the current process is either too strict or too lenient. After hearing from the public last fall, city planner Stephen Troskey proposed eliminating the need for approval by the Site Planning and Review Board and letting city staff decide, as it would on signage in any other part of the city.
