"Significant obstacles" removed from $5B Honolulu rail project

Honolulu's $5 billion elevated-rail project has had several "significant obstacles" taken out of its way, with separate court rulings from the 9th U.S. Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court. The rulings, which say the project "complies with environmental law" and properly considered alternate routes, allow the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation to continue work on the 20-mile route, with the first portion from Kapolei to the Aloha Stadium scheduled to open by 2017. The entire line is expected to be completed by 2019.
