U.S. FDA bolsters oversight of drugs produced in India

Mounting concerns about the safety of drugs manufactured in India prompted the U.S. FDA to beef up its regulatory presence in the country, which is the second-biggest supplier of generic drugs to the U.S. The number of investigators assigned to the FDA's India office will increase from 12 to 19, FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg said. "We need the same level of oversight whether it is within our borders or outside," she said.
