Today's consumers can choose from a variety of different phone technologies, and what's good for one household may not work for others. For instance, VoIP has been touted as an inexpensive alternative for people who make a lot of long-distance calls, but it actually makes more economic sense for some users to buy bundled packages from telecoms. Another option is going all-wireless, but that has its own set of headaches, such as patchy coverage and restrictions on phone battery life.
