Delta-Northwest merger could pass antitrust review

A possible merger of Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines may have a stronger chance of withstanding antitrust scrutiny than prior airline mergers. Observers note that there is not much overlap between the Northwest and Delta route networks. Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, says he will oppose any proposed deal, but a House committee spokesman noted that lawmakers don't have the power to stop a merger.
