Budget cuts contribute to public-sector job losses

Public-sector jobs are gradually becoming more scarce as state and local governments nationwide have eliminated 668,000 jobs since the start of the recession, according to an analysis of labor statistics by the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government. Public-sector job losses have been particularly severe in the Silicon Valley area of California.
