Calif.'s Bay Bridge reopens after lane realignment, demolition

The westbound upper deck of the Bay Bridge in California reopened more than 24 hours ahead of schedule, after crews realigned lanes and demolished a key part of the old span. The $6.3 billion single-tower suspension span is expected to be completed by next year when a new bridge is finished. "The next time we plan to close the Bay Bridge will be to open the new Bay Bridge, Labor Day weekend 2013," Caltrans spokesman Bart Ney said.
