Some small social networks built around communities of people with niche interests are proving to be a hit, and could emerge as a challenge to Facebook's dominance of the industry, Jay Jamison writes. That doesn't necessarily threaten Facebook's business model, though, since many of the sites use Facebook's API to raise awareness and traffic. "As these new services grow, more content gets pumped back to Facebook. ... Facebook's positive feedback loop gains more momentum, and becomes more powerful," Jamison writes.
