The integration of innovative technologies with advances in materials and design concepts is certain to shape future infrastructure projects, writes Jon Wolton. Sustainability is likely to play a key role and includes the use of BIM, porous concrete and solar implants on roadways, and graywater systems. "As cities move away from inefficient and disconnected public works towards a more organic integration of public needs, the field will need bright and bold designers who can blend environmental concern with utility, all with a careful aesthetic eye," Wolton notes.
