Risk-based cargo screening is the better approach, airline says

Printer bombs that passed through security undetected in 2010 created major concerns about air-cargo screening. Some observers say that cargo screening has improved since 2010, but others note that relaxed screening of so-called low-risk cargo remains a weak point. Some of those on the front lines of air-cargo security point out that the risk-based approach stems from on-the-ground realities. "Identifying high-risk cargo wherever it is in the supply chain and singling it out for physical screening is the better approach to securing cargo on an international scale," said David Brooks, the head of American Airlines air cargo.
