Experts: Propane is "perfectly safe" if properly installed

After a fatal explosion in Bath, Maine, last week, the state's leading propane inspector, Peter Holmes of the state Fuel Board, says propane is "perfectly safe" as long as the heating system is properly installed and maintained by trained professionals. Brian Champagne, lead instructor for the Maine Energy Marketers Association's training program, urges homeowners to leave the task of working on their heating systems to licensed technicians. "If you smell propane, shut off the tank and call the company," Champagne adds.
