Stock volatility reaches record low; investors return to market

Volatility in stock swings is the lowest since the Great Depression, with average daily price moves for the Standard & Poor's 500 Index clocking in at 0.43% for 2013. The average was 1.08% over the last five years. Investors are returning to the market, investing $37 billion in equity funds during January, the highest level since 2004, according the Investment Company Institute.
