La. panel endorses proposed graduation rules for students with disabilities

The Louisiana Special Education Advisory Panel has endorsed a plan to overhaul how students with disabilities earn diplomas. The Jump Start plan, which will go before the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education next month, calls for teams of educators to consider students' progress on their Individual Education Plans when making diploma decisions. Panel member Rana Ottallah criticized the plan for potentially lowering the bar for students with disabilities.
