Researchers: Probiotics should be standard of care for preemies

Giving probiotics to preterm infants may reduce rates of necrotizing enterocolitis, according to a Canadian study of 294 NICU patients in the Journal of Pediatrics. The study team wrote probiotics should be considered the standard of care and used routinely in all infants born before 32 weeks gestation.
