Short-term lending concerns warrant review, SEC's Stein says

There is a need to improve transparency in the short-term lending market because investors are not aware of how much banks and other institutions use that market, said Kara Stein, a member of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Federal Reserve is considering a plan to require banks that rely on short-term lending to hold more capital, and the SEC is looking at preventing investor run-risk on money market funds.
