Federal Courthouse in Seattle has surprise inside

The building features a reflecting pool in the lobby that masks a security system and a hybrid shear-wall core that combines steel plates, braces and beams into cells held in place by steel filled with 10,000-psi concrete. The core weighs less than one made entirely of concrete, reducing the foundation costs, and it tested better in earthquake simulations.
