California dairy farms thrive despite challenges

California's dairy industry remains strong despite facing such challenges as water shortage, the absence of bees and the state's strict rules on manure. Dairy producers have been producing more milk than processors can handle, and cooperatives are considering a quota system to limit production. Plans are also under way for the construction of a new cheese factory that will process 6.8 million pounds of milk per day and for the expansion of the dairy processing plants at LeMore, Tulare and Visalia.
