Green groups challenge Shell's air-pollution permits

Environmental groups are challenging Royal Dutch Shell's air-pollution permits for the company's offshore-drilling project in Alaska, arguing that the permits violate U.S. pollution laws. The Environmental Protection Agency failed to ensure that the company met all air-quality standards in clearing the permits, the groups claim. "Shell and EPA have worked to assemble strong, environmentally responsible air permits," company spokeswoman Kelly op de Weegh said in response to the petition.
