Schools teach students about history, presidents

Many teachers are profiling the lives of presidents Abraham Lincoln and George Washington in the classroom in honor of the Presidents Day holiday, observed Monday. Despite some confusion over the specifics of the holiday, the event presents an opportunity to teach students about history and leadership. "Because its so long ago and not part of their personal history that they know where we came from and how we got the freedoms we have today," elementary-school librarian Pollienne Smith said.
