Defense cuts threaten protection, NATO chief says

NATO members should stop cutting defense budgets, and instead build them back up as their economies improve, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Thursday. Continued reductions in military spending, he said, "will have a negative impact on our ability to provide effective defense and protection of our populations." Rasmussen didn't speak directly on the U.S. sequester, but said that it is "a matter of concern that we have seen and continue to see declining defense budgets all over the alliance."
