Gartner cites heavy IT spending by marketing departments

Half of what enterprises now spend on IT, not including IT departments' budgets themselves, is through marketing departments, Gartner says, adding that it projects the figure will increase to 80% by 2016. Those marketing dollars are being allocated to analytics for real-time business intelligence, automation of content management and social media monitoring, and mobile and social technology, Lynn Haber writes.
