Glitzy stadiums spell the end for Minneapolis Metrodome

The trend toward sports venues having retractable roofs and other luxurious features made the Minneapolis Metrodome seem old-fashioned and worn out, according to this article. The stadium, whose fabric roof collapsed in a snowstorm in December 2010, will be demolished and replaced with a new, $975 million arena for the Minnesota Vikings. The upcoming Vikings season will be the last played inside the Metrodome.
