PhRMA comments on Erskine-Bowles call for health cuts

Former Clinton White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles and former Republican Sen. Alan Simpson have proposed another $600 billion in health care spending cuts as part of a new plan to cut $2.4 trillion from the budget deficit over the next decade. PhRMA senior vice president Matthew Bennett said any agreement on health care spending must protect and uphold continued medical advancement. "Maintaining leadership in R&D-intensive sectors such as the biopharmaceutical sector is critical to winning the fight against the human and economic costs of disease and growing the U.S. economy over the long term," Bennett said.
