Study says social gaming can aid in weight loss

Winners of DietBet, an online weight-loss program that combines financial incentives and social networking, attained an average 4.9% decline in their initial body weight at seven months, a study indicated. The findings in the journal JMIR Serious Games suggest that gaming websites that promote incentives and socialization may serve as a convenient and cost-effective means of encouraging weight loss, researchers said.
