Author Mark Haskell Smith's new novel, "Black Sapphire Pearl," contains a few gushing passages that read like advertisements for Lexus luxury sedans -- because that's exactly what they are. The serial novel, being printed in a magazine published for Lexus owners, was commissioned by the automaker. Product placement is increasingly being adopted by media like fiction and comic books.
