Slowing economy prompts spring break travelers to cut back

Although spring break travelers still are planning to take their trips, many are cutting down on their spending as the economic slowdown hits closer to home. Travel agents say some common ways to stay within a tighter budget include driving rather than flying, shorter vacations and opting for less expensive hotels or cruise ship cabins. "The travelers that we work with are saying, 'How can I maximize my dollar? What's the best deal out there?' That same traveler a year ago didn't ask that question," said John Schmitt, co-owner of Superior Travel in Michigan.
