Study warns of complications caused by multiple NSAIDs

A study of 138 patients enrolled in a regional managed-care organization found that 26% reported taking at least two prescription or over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during the previous month and that the "dual users" scored lower in physical evaluations. "Adequate pain management may have the potential to reduce dual [NSAID] use, improve patient symptoms, including physical functioning, and reduce patient safety problems," the researchers concluded.
